Partition of India: My memories
In August 1947 India gained independence from the British and split into two separate countries - the secular state of India, dominated by Hindus, and Muslim Pakistan.
Millions of people were forced to leave their homes because of inter-religious violence.

Witness is a World Service radio programme of the stories of our times told by the people who were there.
