The day same-sex civil unions became legal in Denmark

It is 25 years since Denmark became the first country to celebrate same-sex civil unions.

Ivan Larsen, an ordained minister of the Lutheran church, the state Church of Denmark, and Ove Carlsen, a psychologist, were one of the first couples to sign on the dotted line.

Here, they describe how the decision to legalise same-sex unions changed both their lives, and those of other gay people in Denmark.

Witness is a World Service radio programme of the stories of our times told by the people who were there.
