A night on the SOS bus

Towns and cities across the UK are in peak Christmas party season.

Friday 19 December has been dubbed Mad Friday as it marks the start of one of the busiest weekends of the year for ambulance services and hospitals as thousands of revellers hit bars and clubs.

In Norwich, the SOS Bus is a year-round service that helps people suffering the effects of too much alcohol or otherwise in distress during a night out.

Run by volunteers, and with the support of an NHS Paramedic, the service helps take the pressure off the ambulance service and A&E by providing a safe place.

As they geared up for one of the busiest times of the year, BBC News spent a night on board.
