Tokyo was a 'crumbled nightmare' after World War Two bombings

Tokyo was devastated by US bombings towards the end of World War Two.

Hiroko Tolbert, 84, was just a young girl at the time, but remembers the scene vividly.

"Emperor is telling us we lost the war, and all of us started crying, telling each other it's not true," she says.

"We lost everything. It was flat, everything was crumbled - the result of many, many US bombings. You cannot find street, you cannot find store, it was nightmare."

The full documentary Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight will air on BBC World News this weekend.
