BBC reporter experiences 'smart drug' side-effects

BBC reporter Benjamin Zand has taken the "smart drug" modafinil as an experiment, to explore claims it can make those using it work more effectively.

Modafinil has been labelled the "world's first safe smart drug" after a study by researchers at Harvard and Oxford universities suggested its effects were "low risk" when taken in the short term. But side-effects can include insomnia, headaches and potentially dangerous skin rashes - and there is a considerable lack of data on its long-term effects.

After taking the drug for a second consecutive day, Zand began to feel its negative effects.
