Eric Garner anniversary: Capturing the New York police on camera
Two years ago, on 17 July 2014, Eric Garner died after he was restrained by police officers in New York City.
The anniversary comes in the midst of mounting tension across the United States following the recent police shootings of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana. At the end of a subsequent protest in Dallas against these shootings, lone gunman and war veteran Micah Xavier Johnson killed five police officers.
The video of Eric Garner's arrest two years ago has since inspired a network of "copwatchers" - ordinary people who film the NYPD in action.
Documentary maker Ben Steele has followed some of the New Yorkers who film the police.
