Using legal highs 'left me paranoid and depressed'

Eighteen-year-old Jessica Skinner says taking legal highs left her feeling paranoid and depressed.

She started snorting powders and taking pills that she presumed were safe because she had bought them legally from a shop.

She says a friend killed himself after taking mephedrone when it was legal. It's since been banned.

Police, council leaders and trading standards officials have all told Newsbeat tougher laws are needed, with some adding there's a risk of further deaths.

The government says it's not complacent and that whole families of harmful substances are being outlawed.
