'I never thought HIV would happen to someone like me'

Alex Sparrowhawk found out he was HIV-positive when he was 24 years old after having unprotected sex.

He says he never thought HIV "was something that would happen to someone like me, I always thought it would happen to someone else".

Following new research from the MAC AIDS Fund, external, which has found a third of teenagers don't realise they can catch the virus through unsafe sex, Alex has gone into a school to find out for himself what teenagers think.

He is now on medication, and says teenagers should get tested regularly.
