The campaign to inspire more young people to vote

This week signals the start of a major push to get more young people registered to vote in the general election.

The campaign is being led by Bite the Ballot - an independent organisation set up to improve turnout among 18 to 24-year-olds.

Events are being held at dozens of schools, colleges and universities to get young people signed up to the electoral register.

Estimates show 44% of 18 to 24-year-olds voted in the 2010 general election, compared to 75% of people aged over 55.
