T in the Park: Rain, an engagement and a honeymoon

It's fair to say Day One of T in the Park was accompanied by rain.

A new home at Strathallan Castle didn't mean a change in the weather.

As one festival goer put it: "It's that fine rain that gets you wet through, isn't it?". And unfortunately it was, but the sun did come out just after Lower Than Atlantis finished their opening set on the Radio 1 stage.

So far nearly 60,000 campers have joined the site with a further 20,000 expected over the weekend.

"We just saw Fuse ODG and he was sick," said 23-year-old Laura Simpson, "he was really good, really good."

"He was so good. We stumbled upon him and it was so good," added her friend 23-year-old Beth Rawlins.

Newsbeat bumped into three little pigs, or three guys who had come from Newcastle for the festival dressed in pig outfits, complete with snouts.

"I will say my highlight of the day was Indiana on the T Break stage. First heard her on Scott Mills's show on Radio 1. Absolutely gorgeous. I love her to bits," said 29-year-old Stevie.

But the wet weather definitely didn't dampen the spirits of Ashlee and her other half.

"We've been together for two years, and we met at Rockness festival in Inverness and yesterday we came up here. We're camping in the tangerine fields where he popped the question.

"I've told our parents, but nobody else, no Facebook or anything like that."

Congratulations to the happy couple.

But they weren't the only ones celebrating at the festival.

"Because we've been coming to T in the Park for so many years and you just can't beat the atmosphere," said new husband Sean Willis.

He's on honeymoon at the festival with new wife Monica. She told Newsbeat: "It's just the best place to be for a party and for everyone to feel so welcome. And there's nowhere else for us to celebrate our wedding than with 80,000 other people. T in the Park all the way, who needs the Maldives when you have Strathallan?"

The day also saw performances from Sam Smith, Rudimental, Sigma, Jessie Ware and Kasabian.

Police Scotland confirmed they'd made 12 arrests and recorded 83 crimes. They added it was on par with last year's figures.

Mark Ronson admitted that he is a T in the Park festival virgin, despite being on the bill to headline King Tut's Wah Wah tent.

"Everyone's told me how rowdy the crowd is and if it's anythig under an 11, I feel like I'm not doing my job."

David Guetta admitted to Newsbeat he does so much flying that it's now customary to have a slip of paper written on the side of his decks with the name of the city he's performing in.

But he said this time, because he is in the north of the UK and whenever he has played there he's "having a blast", he knew where he was.

"I'll tell you a secret. Every time I go on stage, on the side of the turntables, there's a paper with the name of the city of where I am, in case I forget.

"Because sometimes I wake up in the mornings and I don't know where I am."
