Scientist who discovered noble gases to be honoured

In 1904 Sir William Ramsay won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry discovering the noble gases which include neon, krypton and helium.

As part of this year's International Year of Chemistry, he is being honoured with a blue plaque on his old house in Notting Hill, in west London.

All the gases he discovered are used in products and industry to this day.

Ramsay's original discoveries are still kept at University College London, where Dr Andrea Sella showed how they still light up the laboratories.
