Is it right to experiment on animals for research?

A former science minister has told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast that people could "suffer and die" if animal rights protesters succeed in stopping critical medical trials.

Lord Drayson warned that research into illnesses such as Alzheimer's and dementia would be affected.

All the UK's ferry companies and all but two airlines have stopped transporting animals destined for laboratories because of pressure from protesters.

Alistair Currie from the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals confronted Lord Drayson.
