Scientists discover how pet dogs evolved from wolves

Domesticated dogs evolved into man's best friend much more recently than previously thought, according to a new analysis of their DNA.

A new study of dog genetics published in the journal Nature reveals differences in dog genes involved in starch metabolism, compared with those of wolves.

It backs the idea that those animals better able to digest human farmed cereal crops evolved into dogs as we know them today.
