Solar plane flies over San Francisco

A solar-powered airplane has made a 16-hour flight over San Francisco, in preparation for a coast-to-coast journey due to begin next month.

The cross-continent journey, starting near San Francisco and stopping off in four US cities, is building towards a round-the-world effort for the team behind the plane.
