National Farmers' Union supports GM crops push

GM crops are probably safer than conventional plants according to the Environment Secretary.

Owen Paterson says the government has a duty to explain to the public that the technology is safe and can bring many benefits, such as higher crop yields and a reduction in pesticide use.

Adam Quinney, vice president of the National Farmers' Union, said GM could provide real advantages, such as reducing use of pesticides.
