Birth and death of stars captured

A new image has captured the birth and death of stars in one of the closest galactic neighbours, the Large Magellanic Cloud.

It also shows the remnants a supernova explosion caused by the death of a massive star as it burns all its fuel.

Located about 163,000 light-years away, the clouds are visible with the naked eye from the southern hemisphere.

The detailed image was taken by the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile.

The final close-up shows a Large Magellanic Cloud image of NGC 2035, a star formation region that has an adjacent remnant created by a supernova explosion.
