Badger culls 'failed humaneness test'

Last year's trial badger culling failed to meet many of its targets, according to an investigation for the Department of the Environment.

The report found that the culls in West Somerset and Gloucestershire killed far fewer badgers than was necessary to stop the spread of TB in cattle and the culls failed the test for humaneness.

Professor Rosie Woodroffe, from the Zoological Society of London, said the only benefit from the trial was "better evidence".
