The booming calls of the blue whale

One of the calls made by male Antarctic blue whale might be considered a bit boring. On a spectrogram, it's Z-shaped. It goes from 26 hertz down to 19 hertz with a little tail to make the Z. Males make this call again and again, and it can travel huge distances.

This sound was recorded and curated by Brian Miller of the Australian Antarctic Division.
