Clamping vehicles on private land could be banned

Wheel clampers will be banned from operating on private land in England and Wales from next year under government proposals.

Home Office minister Lynne Featherstone said the plans included provision for the police or councils to immobilise or remove vehicles in exceptional circumstances, such as the blocking of a hospital access point.

She said landowners would still have the right to protect their property from unwanted parking, saying "they can either put up barriers or they can switch to ticketing".
