Man jailed for rhino horn smuggling bid in Manchester
A man who pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle a rhino horn worth hundreds of thousands of pounds through Manchester Airport has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Donald Allison hid the horn in a bronze sculpture as he tried to board a flight to China. He hoped to get into the lucrative Chinese medicine market where rhino horn is believed to cure cancer.
The horn was from a Rhino which died at Colchester Zoo last year.
