Cost of car insurance for young drivers on the rise

The cost of car insurance has gone up faster in the last year than ever before with young men bearing the brunt of increases.

According to the AA, premiums have increased by 40 per cent in the past 12 months.

Simon Gompertz talks to young driver Ryan Bird as well as Simon Douglas who is an insurance director for the AA. He told the BBC insurance premiums will only come down when the 'carnage' caused by young drivers reduces.

Some insurance companies are fitting gadgets which monitor the way a person is driving, as Nigel Lacy from Young Marmalade explained.
