Alan Johnson warns against scale of spending cuts plans

In his first major speech as shadow chancellor Alan Johnson has said Labour would tackle the deficit with more tax rises, targeting the banks for example, and fewer spending cuts.

He said the government's approach, to be announced on Wednesday, was taking a "huge gamble with growth and jobs".
