Defence cuts about 'correct balance', says Liam Fox

Liam Fox has said cuts to the defence budget will be aimed at achieving "the correct balance" within the UK's armed services and with its international allies.

The defence secretary said the planned scrapping of HMS Ark Royal and the RAF's Harrier jump jets would not leave the UK without a sea-to-air option.

But he said it was vital the armed services could develop and maintain "an adaptive posture" over the next 30-40 years.
