Armistice marked with two-minute silence across Britain

A two-minute silence was marked by millions of people across Britain at 1100GMT on Thursday to honour all those who have died in war.

Soldiers in Afghanistan held their own ceremony, made the more poignant by the deaths of 111 servicemen there in the past year.

Meanwhile in London, a service was held for the 90th time at the Cenotaph memorial, events also took place at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the Field of Remembrance and the Grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey.

James Robbins reports.
