Snow causes disruption in parts of the UK

There has been more heavy snow in parts of Scotland and north-east England with ice a particular danger on the roads.

On Thursday night a plane skidded off the runway at Newcastle airport as it tried to land in bad weather.

So far nearly 200 schools have closed in Scotland, north-east England, south Wales and Yorkshire.

Travel has been disrupted with the AA reporting 12,000 car breakdowns - well over the usual number at this time of year.

The cold spell is predicted to last for the next 10 days.
