Are councils ready with salt and grit in the big freeze?

Britain is experiencing the worst early snowfall for 17 years.

Severe weather warnings remain in place in south-east Scotland and north-east England, with temperatures plummeting and some areas seeing up to 16 inches of snow.

David Sparks from the Local Government Association said local authorities have well over a third more salt and grit stockpiles compared to last winter.
