Cable embarrassed by "bring government down" comments

The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, has privately indicated that he could walk out of the coalition and "bring the Government down" if he is "pushed too far" in negotiations with Tory ministers.

Mr Cable made the comments to undercover reporters from the Daily Telegraph during a meeting at a constituency surgery.

He has said he is embarrassed at the remarks and has no intention of bringing the government down.

As the BBC's political correspondent, Iain Watson, explains one Labour MP is already demanding a fuller explanation.
