Spitfire honoured on 75th anniversary

A fighter Spitfire has taken to the skies to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the world famous aircraft.

The fighter flew over its birthplace, Southampton, for 20 minutes in honour of the 1936 test flight that paved the way for it to become a mainstay of the RAF during the Second World War.

Carolyn Grace, thought to be the world's only female Spitfire pilot, took to the skies with Nick Hancock, the architect of a new Spitfire tribute planned for the city.

She said the Spitfire has stood the test of time.
