England and Wales police could lose pay in review

Thousands of police officers in England and Wales could lose up to £4000 a year if a series of allowances and special payments are scrapped.

That is one of the recommendations of a wide-ranging review of their pay and conditions which is trying to find ways to save more than £400m a year.

But the independent report also says that some skilled officers who work unsocial hours could end up better off.
