David Cameron defends mission for allies in Libya

The UK is hosting a meeting of international allies in London to discuss the next steps for Libya.

Forces opposed to Col Gaddafi, helped by international air strikes, have made rapid progress in recent days but pro-Gaddafi forces are pushing back.

Prime Minister David Cameron opened the conference by outlining goals for "a new beginning in Libya".

He added the UN-backed military action saved the city of Benghazi, "averted a massacre" and has given "freedom a chance in Libya".
