Sewage warning plan for UK beaches
The Keep Britain Tidy campaign has announced which beaches in England have been given a Blue Flag award. They are given when a beach meets high environmental and quality standards.
Overall, 70 beaches in England have been given an award; similar schemes are run in Scotland and Wales.
Speaking from Preston Sands, near Paignton in south Devon, Richard Mcllwain, from Keep Britain Tidy, said there was a scheme proposed which would warn beach-goers about sewage discharges into the sea.
Andy Cummins, from Surfers Against Sewage, said more needed to be done to raise cleanliness standards.
