Careless drivers to face on-the-spot fines

Police are to be given new powers to fine careless drivers on the spot, rather than taking them to court.

Motorists who tailgate, undertake or cut up other vehicles could face fines of up to £100. It is part of a government strategy to make Britain's roads safer.

Motorists who make a genuine mistake will be offered help to improve their driving.
