Britain's green spaces 'worth billions of pounds'

For the first time, a value has been put on the economic benefits of Britain's parks, lakes, forests, and wildlife.

A report by 500 academics says the resources are worth billions of pounds to the British economy.

The "UK Ecosystem Assessment" also suggests that the health benefits of living with a view of green space, are worth up to £300 a year, per person.

The chief scientific adviser to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Bob Watson says development proposals in urban spaces need to be assessed more accurately.
