Surrey Police: 'Lessons have been learned' after Milly case

At the conclusion of the Milly Dowler murder trial, Surrey Police said lessons had been learned and changes made after "mistakes" during the investigation.

Speaking outside the Old Bailey, Detective Chief Inspector Maria Woodall said years of hard work had gone into securing a conviction for the murder.

Levi Bellfield was given a whole-life tariff for murdering Milly in Surrey in 2002.
