Prince William addresses crowds in Ottawa during Canada Day

Thousands of Canadians have turned out in Ottawa to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as they take part in Canada Day celebrations during their first overseas tour as a couple.

"The Queen has taken a great interest in the themes and programme of our tour", Prince William told an assembled crowd at Parliament Hill.

As Canadian forces prepare to wind down from Afghanistan, he said Canadians could be "immensely proud" of their contribution.
