British forces employ machines to 'listen' for enemy fire

British forces in Afghanistan are getting new help from a machine that detects incoming enemy fire.

The Boomerang III "listens" for shots and then estimates where and how far away the shooter is.

First developed in the US, it has been honed for front line use by scientists at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory in the UK.
