Piers Morgan urged to 'clear up' phone hacking allegation

Culture Select Committee chairman John Whittingdale has said MPs have no plans to call former Mirror editor Piers Morgan or Mirror Group executives after Heather Mills' phone-hacking claims.

It follows Wednesday's allegations by Ms Mills that a senior Mirror Group journalist admitted hacking voicemails left for her by her then-boyfriend Sir Paul McCartney.

Trinity Mirror responded to the allegation by saying: "Our position is clear. All our journalists work within the criminal law and the PCC [Press Complaints Commission] code of conduct."

Speaking to the BBC, committee member Jim Sheridan said there would not be a formal invitation to Mr Morgan unless further evidence came to light, but urged him to "clear up these allegations".
