Lembit Opik comparison on 'Mandela wilderness years'

Brian Paddick has been selected to be the Liberal Democrats' candidate in the London Mayoral Election 2012.

Five people stood for the party's nomination with Mr Opik finishing last.

Speaking on Good Evening Wales before the winner was declared, candidate Lembit Opik spoke about his popularity in past elections, and appeared to compare himself to Nelson Mandela.

He shared with listeners that all great politicians "have to have some wilderness years, Nelson Mandela had them...." and suggested he perhaps needed a bit of time for reflection.
