Protester delays the felling of a 100-year-old tree

A protester has prevented a century-old beech tree from being cut down in a village in North Yorkshire.

The tree is at the centre of a five year row that began when a homeowner applied for it to be felled because of the damage it could do to his property's drains.

Mark Snow, also known as Mark Snoz, climbed the tree on Tuesday morning pretending to check if there were birds' nests or wildlife still in it.

He told Radio 5 live Breakfast that he was prepared to stay in the tree for as long as necessary.
