When is it OK to whip a horse?
The rules on how often jockeys can whip their horses are to be changed following controversy about excessive use in this year's Grand National. Some animal welfare groups have called for an outright ban, claiming it is painful and cruel.
The British Horseracing Authority says it is appropriate when done properly but will tighten the rules, especially during the closing stages of a race.
The authority's director of equine welfare, Prof Tim Morris, and Lee Mottershead, a journalist at Racing Post, discussed the issue on BBC Breakfast.
