Beached whale rescue 'abandoned'

A sixty foot whale, normally found in the Atlantic Ocean, has been left to die after becoming beached on the west side of South Uist in the Western Isles.

Volunteers tried to keep the whale alive in the hope it could be helped back out to sea.

But as BBC reporter Iain Morrison explains the creature is too big for the floatation equipment it was hoped could set it free.
