Footballer Joey Barton backs Hillsborough campaign
Queens Park Rangers footballer Joey Barton has welcomed progress in the campaign to release documents relating to the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster, ahead of a debate by MPs.
Mr Barton was one of the main backers of an online e-petition aimed at persuading the government to release documents relating to the disaster.
Ninety-six people died when a crush developed in the caged pens at the Leppings Lane end of the stadium in an FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Mr Barton said the disclosure of the information was important to help the families gain closure.
