Injured soldier will not be discharged from Army
The most seriously wounded soldier in Afghanistan, who was being recommended for discharge from the army, has received a lifeline from the veterans minister.
Andrew Robathan has written to the family of Ben Parkinson to say he will not be discharged until he no longer needs intensive rehabilition.
Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson, who served with the 7 Para Royal Horse Artillery, lost both legs, suffered brain damage and a broken back when his Land Rover was ripped apart by an anti-tank mine in Afghanistan in 2006.
The 27 year-old was told he would never walk or talk again but has been making a good recovery.
Mr Parkinson's mother Diane Dernie told Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire about his progress.
