Philip Hammond at 'poignant' ceremony in Afghanistan

As millions of people across the UK prepare to observe a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day, British service personnel in Afghanistan have held a two-minute silent tribute at 11:00 local time (06:30 GMT).

Three thousand troops at the main British base in Afghanistan, Camp Bastion in Helmand province, took part in a ceremony attended by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond.

Mr Hammond described is a ''a very poignant reminder'' of the sacrifice made by service personnel in the past and the present.
