Nick Clegg: Public won't back Queen yacht idea

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said he suspects the public will not support a proposal to give the Queen a new royal yacht at a time when "there is very little money around".

His comments came after it emerged that the Education Secretary Michael Gove had suggested such a gift to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

The idea was put forward in a letter to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt that was obtained by the Guardian.
