Prisoner escapes during West Suffolk Hospital visit

Police are searching for a prisoner who escaped from the grounds of a hospital in Bury St Edmunds after two prison officers were threatened at gunpoint.

Andrew Farndon, 26, had been taken to West Suffolk Hospital from nearby Highpoint Prison, where he is serving an indeterminate sentence for grievous bodily harm.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Bennett of Suffolk Constabulary said the public should not approach him but should dial 999 instead.
