Does it matter if you live in a town or city?

The last contest for city status was held in the UK 10 years ago, when towns like Newport and Preston were given their titles.

In June, 26 more towns will bid for the chance to upgrade, as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

But does it matter if you live in town or city?
