Shop robber fought off with sticky tape

A would-be Orkney thief, who was fought off by a worker with a sticky tape dispenser, has admitted assault and attempted robbery.

Christopher Baird, 18, of Finstown, attempted to steal money at knife point from Baikie's Stores on 18 February.

Euan Brown, who was working behind the counter, hit him over the head with the dispenser.

Sentence at Kirkwall Sheriff Court was deferred for background reports and Baird was remanded in custody.
