School proms 'cost one in 10 parents £500'

They used to be the stuff of American movies, but now the High School Prom is increasingly replacing the Assembly Hall Disco as an end of school life rite of passage.

For many, this means sparing no expense on outfits and transport to the party, with one in 10 parents spending £500 on their child's prom.

The cost of Emily Pounde and Hannah Jagger's recent prom entrance, complete with life-size replica Barbie toy boxes, is probably best left to the imagination.
