Heavy rain causes disruption across the UK

Torrential rain has disrupted many parts of the UK, with 175 flood alerts in place and 53 flood warnings.

The worst affected area overnight has been southwest England, where the Met Office has issued the highest possible weather warning, asking people to take action to protect themselves and their properties.
